This stainless steel balloon rabbit sculpture sits upright on two plump hind legs and looks straight at the viewer with a smooth, round head. Its two long ears rise high above the head, and each ear carries a pinched crease down the middle that gives it the look of a real inflated balloon. The rabbit holds a pointed carrot in one paw, and its small rounded arms tuck against a glossy belly. Shaping a Rounded Head and Pinched Ears
The head is the hardest part of this balloon rabbit sculpture, because a mirror sphere shows every dent and flat spot in its reflection. Our craftsmen shape the head panel by panel and check each curve against the full-size model until the whole surface reads as one clean round form.
The long ears call for a different kind of care, since each one carries a pinched crease along its length, just like a twisted balloon. We press that groove into the steel before we weld the ear to the head, and then we blend the joint so the ear seems to grow naturally out of the head.
